Llanyrafon AFC girls had historically played within the boys sectons of the Torfaen Junior & Youth Leagues.
2004 saw the introduction of U11 and U13 girls development teams managed by Alan Hiatt and Ashley Sulway.
A Torfaen girls league was formed in season 2005/2006 with the Under 13's managed by Ian Josela and the U11s managed by Ashley. Both teams did very well during their first league season, competing against girls teams from Race, Blaenavon, Pontnewydd, Croesyceiliog and Cwmbran Celtic.
The U11s continued to play into the 2006/2007 season but due to dwindling teams and players the U13s league was unsustainable. The U11s team joined the Newport & District Girls League and continued to play out the season against the Newport squads.
Gwent County Girls League was formed in 2007/2008 and the U11s had an opportunity to play teams from all over the County for the next 2 seasons. The U11's girls team was by this time very well established as a top Gwent girls team and remained undefeated for 2 seasons!
In season 2009/2010 Llanyrafon girls entered the highly competitive 'South Wales Girls League'. Kevin Sims and Peter Cadwell were appointed to manage the team and carry the banner forward.
The team were SWG League 'Runners up' in 2009/2010 and lost a cup final place on panalties to Cardiff City.
Another excellent season...well done.
2010/2011 saw the majority of the U12s team move up to U14s and the formation of a new U12s squad!
We wish the very best of luck to both teams in the forthcoming season...keep up the good work girls!
